The accelerated formation of new nuclear energy productive forces: hybrid reactors, fast reactors, and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors are giving birth to the next generation of nuclear power pumps

The 2026 Shanghai Nuclear Energy New Quality Productive Forces Development Conference released a clear signal: China's nuclear energy is evolving from a single pressurized water reactor system toward the parallel development of thermal reactors, fast reactors, and fusion reactors. As of the end of July 2026, China had a total of 120 nuclear power units in operation and approved for construction, with a total installed capacity of approximately 135 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world; at the same time, the Hualong One, the HTR-PM high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, sodium-cooled fast reactors, SMRs, and fusion technologies are being advanced simultaneously. Among these, high-temperature gas-cooled reactors are extending from power generation to Nuclear Hydrogen Production, Industrial Steam Supply, Seawater Desalination, and High-Temperature Process Heat. China's Xuwei nuclear heating and power project has adopted a multi-reactor coupling model combining high-temperature gas-cooled reactors with Hualong One, simultaneously providing steam and electricity to a large petrochemical base. Such systems place higher reliability requirements on high-temperature secondary-loop circulation pumps, feedwater pumps, condensate pumps, and industrial steam auxiliary pumps. Fast neutron reactors emphasize the Closed Fuel Cycle, Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor, Leadismuth Fast Reactor, and High-Temperature Coolant Circulation. Fast reactors improve uranium resource utilization and, through the closed fuel cycle, transmute some long-lived nuclides, making them a key link in China's "three-step" nuclear energy strategy. For pumps, future demand will no longer be limited to ordinary water media, but will further extend into special fluid fields such as liquid sodium, lead-bismuth alloy, and high-temperature molten salt. Even more cutting-edge is the Fusion-Fission Hybrid Reactor Experts at the conference pointed out that the combination of fusion and fission is regarded as an important research pathway for future nuclear energy. Hybrid reactors may simultaneously involve high-heat-flux cooling, tritium cycles, molten salt or liquid metal blankets, and multi-stage heat exchange systems, placing entirely new requirements on Sealless Pumps, Molten Salt Pumps, Liquid Metal Pumps, and Remote Condition Monitoring. Jiangsu Hafei Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. www.jslgpump.com can build on its existing OH, BB, VS, canned motor pump, magnetic drive pump, high-temperature molten salt pump, high-pressure multistage pump platforms to focus on extending into nuclear power conventional island, auxiliary systems, and non-nuclear island fluid systems for advanced reactor types: BB5 for high-pressure feedwater and boosting, the VS series covering condensate and low-NPSH conditions, high-temperature molten salt pumps for advanced thermal energy storage and experimental loops, and canned motor pumps and magnetic drive pumps for highly leakage-sensitive media. The real growth points for nuclear power pumps in the future will come from Advanced Reactor Pumps, Reactor Coolant Pumps, HTGR Auxiliary Pumps, Fusion-Fission Hybrid Cooling Pumps, Nuclear Digital Twin Pumps.
