The importance of temperature and vibration measurement in magnetic pump configurations

Once an abnormality occurs, it is often not easy to detect directly from the outside. Therefore in critical working conditions, configuring temperature and vibration measurement systems for magnetic drive pumps has become an important measure to ensure the safe and stable operation of equipment. The internal sliding bearings of magnetic drive pumps usually rely on the conveyed medium itself for lubrication and cooling. When the pump inlet is blocked, the medium flow is interrupted, cavitation occurs, the pump runs dry, or the bearings wear, the internal temperature will rise rapidly. If not detected in time, it can easily lead to grinding and burning of the sliding bearings, damage to the containment shell, and demagnetization of the magnetic steel. In severe cases, it can even cause rotor seizure and complete unit shutdown. Especially under high-temperature, high-pressure, and hazardous medium conditions, such failures not only affect production continuity but may also pose significant safety risks. Therefore, configuring a temperature monitoring system for magnetic drive pumps allows real-time understanding of equipment operating status and early detection of abnormal conditions. Temperature monitoring points are usually set at the bearing positions, the containment shell area, and the motor bearing positions. Among these, the containment shell is one of the most critical core components of a magnetic drive pump. When the inner and outer magnetic steels are not concentric, rotor friction occurs, or eddy current losses increase, the temperature of the containment shell will rise significantly. Through online temperature measurement, major failures such as containment shell burn-through and magnetic steel demagnetization can be effectively prevented. In addition to temperature monitoring, vibration monitoring is equally important. Vibration is often the most intuitive manifestation of equipment failure. When bearing wear, rotor eccentricity, cavitation, excessive pipeline stress, or foundation looseness occurs in a magnetic drive pump, vibration value will increase significantly. Long-term abnormal vibration will accelerate bearing damage, lead to fatigue cracking of the containment shell, and even cause magnetic steel fragmentation and motor damage. Therefore, by monitoring the equipment operating status through a vibration measurement system, potential problems in the equipment can be detected in time, enabling fault warning. Currently, vibration measurement for magnetic drive pumps is mainly divided into two methods: portable vibration measurement and online vibration monitoring. For ordinary working conditions, portable vibration meters are usually used for daily inspections. For continuous production units, high-risk medium conveying systems, and large key equipment, online vibration monitoring systems are more recommended, and they can be interlocked with PLC or DCS systems to achieve real-time alarm and automatic protective shutdown functions. For magnetic drive pumps conveying high-temperature media, easily vaporizable media, flammable and explosive media, and valuable media, it is recommended to configure both online temperature measurement and vibration measurement systems. Especially in hazardous working conditions such as nitric acid, liquid ammonia, heat transfer oil, and benzene, condition monitoring systems can significantly improve equipment operation safety, reduce the risk of unplanned shutdowns, and lower maintenance costs.
