Recently, the Jixi Base Lugu DC 1.4 Million kW Power Transmission Project's 2-1 Solar Thermal 100MW Tower-Type Solar Thermal Power Station reached a key milestone. The core phase—the molten salt tower heating and salt-making operation—was successfully completed in a single attempt, marking the full completion of all system commissioning work and laying a solid foundation for subsequent grid-connected power generation.

Tower-type solar thermal power generation is an important technical route in the new energy sector. Its core principle involves using heliostats to concentrate solar energy onto a receiver at the top of the tower, then utilizing high-temperature molten salt for heat storage to achieve stable power generation. Among these processes, the molten salt tower heating and salt-making operation is one of the most technically challenging and risk-control-demanding key procedures in the entire system. operation requires transporting binary nitrate molten salt, with a freezing point exceeding 220°C, precisely to the tower-top receiver via molten salt pumps and pipelines along a hundred-meter-high tower for heating. Throughout the process, temperature, pressure, and flow rate must remain stable. Any drop in temperature, abnormal flow rate, or localized cold spots in the pipelines could lead to molten salt solidification, blockage, or even leakage, posing severe tests to equipment, pipelines, valves, and the control system.

To a one-time success, the project team thorough preparations in advance, optimized pipeline heat tracing and insulation plans, and completed full-system simulation drills and risk assessments. During the commissioning phase, the team strictly controlled the molten salt heating rate, verified the operational stability of Haifa molten salt pumps, valves, instruments, and control systems in stages, and arranged 24-hour shift monitoring to track key data such as temperature, pressure, liquid level, and flow rate in real time, ensuring precise execution of every operational command.

This molten salt tower heating and salt-making operation achieved zero errors and zero failures, fully demonstrating the project team's comprehensive capabilities in high-temperature molten salt system commissioning equipment coordination control, and safety management. As the solar thermal power station gradually enters the grid-connection phase, Haifa molten salt pumps high-temperature valves, and intelligent control systems will play an important role in stable new energy power supply and storage peak shaving.
