Application and selection of nitric acid pumps in strong corrosive conditions

Especially under high concentration and high temperature conditions, it imposes extremely high requirements on the materials, sealing, and operational stability of pump equipment. Therefore, nitric acid delivery systems typically require specialized Haifa corrosion-resistant nitric acid pumps to ensure the long-term safe and stable operation of production units.
Currently, Haifa nitric acid pumps mainly include types such as lined fluoroplastic centrifugal pumps, lined fluoroplastic magnetic drive pumps, lined fluoroplastic self-priming pumps, and stainless steel special nitric acid pumps. Among these, lined fluoroplastic pumps are widely used in medium and low-temperature nitric acid conditions due to their excellent corrosion resistance. These pumps adopt a metal shell lined with fluoroplastic (such as F46, PFA) structure, combining the mechanical strength of metal materials with the corrosion resistance of fluoroplastics, enabling long-term delivery of corrosive media such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid, and strong oxidizers.
In nitric acid conditions, material selection the pump is particularly critical. For nitric acid room temperature with low medium concentrations, stainless steels such as 304L and 316L meet usage requirements under certain conditions. However, under high concentration and high temperature nitric acid conditions, it is usually necessary to use high-silicon stainless steel, nitric acid-grade materials, Hastelloy, or lined fluoroplastic structures to enhance corrosion resistance. Especially when the medium temperature exceeds 80°C or reaches 120°C, ordinary stainless steel is prone to intergranular corrosion and localized corrosion issues, thus requiring comprehensive selection based on actual concentration and temperature.
Additionally, nitric is volatile and oxidizing, imposing high demands on the sealing system. To reduce leakage risks, magnetic drive pumps are often preferred in some conditions, achieving zero-leakage operation through a seal-less mechanical structure, particularly suitable for toxic, volatile, or high-purity nitric acid delivery systems. For high-temperature, high-pressure, or large-scale process delivery conditions, API standard chemical centrifugal pumps are more commonly, equipped with appropriate flushing and cooling schemes to ensure stable mechanical seal operation.
With the rapid development of new energy, electronic chemicals, and fine chemical industries, the requirements for corrosion resistance,, and intelligent operation of chemical pumps in nitric acid delivery systems are continuously increasing.
