The carbon capture centrifugal booster pump serves as a core and critical equipment in the CCUS system
2026-05-18 20:57:07 254Against the backdrop of the continuous advancement of the "dual carbon" goals, CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) technology is becoming a key focus for the global energy and chemical industries. Among its components, the carbon capture centrifugal booster pump, as one of the core critical devices in CCUS systems, undertakes the crucial tasks of carbon dioxide transportation and high-pressure injection. It is widely used in carbon transport pipelines, underground storage, and oil and gas field enhanced oil recovery. The carbon capture centrifugal booster pump is a high-pressure centrifugal pump specifically developed for carbon dioxide medium conditions, primarily used to increase the pressure of captured CO₂. After the carbon capture stage, CO₂ is typically at a low pressure state and cannot directly meet the requirements for long-distance transport or underground storage. Therefore, the booster pump is needed to raise its pressure to 100–200 bar or even higher, enabling stable pipeline delivery to storage sites or utilization facilities. Compared to ordinary industrial pumps, the carbon capture centrifugal booster pump has higher technical requirements in design. Due to the high compressibility of CO₂ and its tendency to undergo gas-liquid phase changes under different pressure and temperature conditions, the pump must address issues such as cavitation, vibration, and flow stability during operation. Additionally, wet CO₂ can form carbonic acid, which may corrode equipment; thus, the pump body is typically made of high-strength corrosion-resistant alloy materials, paired with highly reliable mechanical seal systems to ensure long-term stable operation. Currently, carbon capture centrifugal booster pumps are widely used in coal-fired power plants, refining units, natural gas processing, chemical production, and offshore oil and gas platforms. In CCUS projects, these pumps not only affect CO₂ transport efficiency but also directly impact the overall system's safety and operational energy consumption. As the global low-carbon energy transition accelerates, the CCUS industry will continue to expand in scale. As one of the core pieces of equipment, the carbon capture centrifugal booster pump will evolve towards higher pressure, greater efficiency, intelligent monitoring, and lower energy consumption, providing crucial equipment support for the green energy and carbon reduction industries.
